José Luis Alba Castro received his PhD in Telecommunications Engineering in 1997 from the University of Vigo, Spain. He is Full Professor at the University of Vigo, teaching Image and Video Analysis in the Telecommunications degree and also Biometrics and Advanced Machine Learning in Computer Vision in the International Master in Computer Vision (https://imcv.eu) that also coordinates in the University of Vigo. In the field of R&D, he is interested in all the topics related to pattern recognition in machine vision and multi-modal human-computer interaction, with special emphasis in biometric identification, face detection, analysis and recognition, computer assisted driving, medical imaging and automatic inspection in industry. From an academic perspective, he is interested in the role of the University in the society, both as a way of conducting excellence in knowledge and as a way to promote research in companies. He is the Head of the Vision Laboratory in the Multimedia Technologies Group of the University of Vigo and he has been the leader of more than 30 research projects and contracts on computer vision and machine learning topics. He has served in many technical programme committees and authored more than 100 international research papers. Dr. Alba is also an associate editor of EURASIP Journal on Information Security. Dr. Alba is co-founder of the spin-off relEYEble.
